“As Makeup Geeks, we stay true to who we are. Cosmetics are not used to change ourselves, but to enhance the exquisite and unique people that we are. To be a Makeup Geek means to be a reflection of our inner beauty.“
This is the message printed on Makeup Geek’s eyeshadow refills packaging. Such a cute idea.
I was super excited to try these eyeshadows because, in case you don’t know, this line is released by Marlena (she is a well known beauty guru on Youtube), and I am a subscriber of her for so many years…
As soon as I got them in my mail I couldn’t wait to share with you all the swatches, some info and my overall opinion.

I’ve got 12 eyeshadow refills and here they are:
Mango Tango – I was afraid this color will be too bright, but as you can see it is a beautiful coral color with very subtle and fine golden glitter. Will warm up any skin complexion.
Cupcake –this is a matte, medium pink-beige eyeshadow. On the website it is described as a medium pink, but in my opinion it is not Anyways, I like it a lot! You can use it to create beautiful smokey eyes, soften any brown or purple e/s …
Bitten – such a pretty mattedeep maroon red color… Never thought of red as being a pretty wearable e/s, before I laid my eyes on this one 😉 You can pair it with a peachy, pink, soft brown, beige and so many others e/s for a perfect everyday look.
Moondust – a metallic silver taupe color, love from the first time I tried it!
Poison Ivy – it’s a very interesting color, shimmery khaki green with lot of golden flecks. At first I’ve chosen the Dirty Martiny e/s, but it was out of stock so I thought I will get this one. From the swatches I have seen, I thought it would be sheerer, but I was pleasantly surprised
Glamorous – a metallic bronze gold. If you have blue eyes, grab it! 😉 It looks so beautiful in person…
My pics don’t show up all the beauty, first of all because the weather is not the best for taking pics :/ And I love taking pics on sunny days! But it’s winter right now, it’s cloudy here pretty much all the season (sorry for the off topic)
Sea Mist – shimmery teal with silver flecks, it was described as turquoise on the website, but at least on me it looks teal So, keep that in mind. Nevertheless, beautiful color.
Shimmermint – light green with olive hue color! It is metallic with golden shimmer. Isn’t it gorgeous? 😉
Poolside – My favourite one! 😉 A perfect shimmery aqua color with golden specks!
Nautica – a midnight blue shade with shimmery finish
Drama Queen – a very dark purple with shimmer finish
Envy – dark green shade with shimmer finish
I have combined these 3 e/s for a reason. All of them are black based e/s. They make a perfect color for your smokey eyes. Using them over a black base would give the best result!
Look how shimmery and sparkly they are! My camera didn’t
catch those sparkles on photos.
All these eyeshadows are very soft and easy to blend. Mango Tango and Poison Ivy seemed to me a bit more chalky than all the other, like they are of a bit dryer texture. But as I use all my eyeshadows with a base it’s not a problem
The color payoff is great! You could see that in my swatches. Also another good thing is that I had minimum to no fallout at all!
I like to use e/s wet and these did a very decent work! Didn’t have any troubles. You can use them as eyeliners too.
Many reviewers are comparing them to MAC e/s. I didn’t try any MAC, but I have tried other professional brands And I can honestly say that the MUG (makeup geek) e/s are more powdery. For ex., my fav MakeUp Atelier e/s are not powdery at all and adhere better to the skin.
But Marlena is just at the beginning of her way, I am sure she is working hard to improve her products ! I do consider all these eyeshadows being of good quality, great color payoff and the prices are very reasonable!
Did you try any of Marlena‘s products? Let me know!
