This is my experience how I am keeping breakouts and blackheads under control. I will tell you from the beginning that I don’t have or had any severe acne. This post is not about how I was or am fighting acne… I didn’t post a before and after picture…. But I do get pimples once in a while and because of my light skin, the marks they leave are quite noticeable. So, I really try to avoid getting any zit or pimple on my face.
I will share with you products I am using and my skin regimen.
Let’s take a look at some of my skin care rules which I am religiously following all the time, no matter what!
- Always take your make up off before going to bed! No excuses.
- If you’re using brushes to apply makeup on your face, make sure you wash and deep clean them regularly.
- Keep your hands away from your face! Don’t let all that bacteria sink onto your skin.
- Change your pillowcases every 2-3 days. Pillowcases have on its surface build up of sweat, dirt, oils, and if not changed regularly of course all that “good stuff” will transfer to your skin.
- I highly recommend using facial tissues instead of your usual towels. That’s very hygienic and easy.
- DO NOT POP YOUR PIMPLES! DON’T TOUCH’EM!
All the above did really make a huge difference .And even if it looks so easy to follow it is not, believe me. And the reason would be some of our bad habits which we should get rid off. Keep on working, if you are guilty of any…
Of course there is something more in my routine that helps me to prevent breakouts.
By the way, I didn’t include in my list drinking a lot of water and eating healthy… I’ve been doing it anyways all the time and still do, but it wouldn’t help me a lot. And because this post is strictly about my experience and what’s working for me, I didn’t include those.
Now… Onto to the products I am using. And it’s not what I am using at the moment, I mean I repurchase them for almost 2 years now :) That what works for me.
1. MY FAVORITE FACE CLEANSERS
Neutrogena is that one inexpensive and affordable brand that just works perfectly with my skin. I do especially love the Neutrogena Microclear line. It’s not drying my skin and it works as it is supposed to, on my skin. They are very gentle yet effective. After trying all the affordable products which are supposed to prevent and fight acne, Neutrogena is the winner in my case. I highly recommend trying it.
The Equate cleanser is a very gentle scrub which I’m using 3-4 times a week. I like it. My skin feels smooth after it.
2. MY FAVORITE FACE MASKS
Clay masks are my favorites. I think I have all clay masks by Freeman. I took a picture of the ones I use the most and which I find the most effective in clearing my pores, smoothing my skin and preventing breakouts.
My #1 is Mint & Lemon. Hands down the best out of any other clay masks I ever tried. It also smells so good… Love it to pieces. I use it once a week. But overall I am using masks about 4 times a week.
3. BLACKHEADS ELIMINATORS
Alright, so I will be honest, I still do have blackheads, and I think this is normal. You can’t get rid of them forever. So keep that in mind and don’t overdo or get stressed out…
The Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating mask I would use just on my nose couple times a week and I use it on my entire face too sometimes. But prior to that I use the Biore strips. I take a shower, and that’s when your pores open and after that on my still wet nose apply the strip. Works for me. I am doing the strip twice a week. My pores are a lot smaller. And overall my nose looks a lot better.
4. TONER AND MOISTURIZER
When I am looking for a toner, the most importang thing that must be mentioned on the label is : “for sensitive skin” . Currently I am using the Equate toner which should be similar to the Clinique toner. That’s why I got it. Clinique is good for sensitive skin. I like this toner, I didn’t break out. One of its main ingredient is witch hazel. Which I really like. Actually, before that I already used two bottles of Witch Hazel astringent. It worked really good for me.
Next is moisturizer. It’s another Equate product which is similar to Olay’s moisturizer. It’s very good for sensitive skin. Non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, fragrance and alcohol free. It lasts me for so long… I need just a pump for my face and neck.
Besides all that I am taking some supplements. Multi Vitamins, Biotin and Fish Oil. You can do your own research on that, but it makes wonders :) Especially since I introduced the Fish Oil in my skin care regimen, my skin improved a lot. I barely have any pimple, maybe once a month. I notice that my acne marks are fading and the pimples I would get once in a while are healing faster too.
Hope I could be of any help. I didn’t struggle with severe acne but these products and my regimen is helping me a lot to keep it under control, to keep my skin acne free.
If you know of any effective and affordable products, make sure to leave a comment.
See you very soon, in my next post :)
