This Chrysalis palette was one of my birthday gifts. I have never tried any of the Kat Von D makeup before, but I’ve heard a lot of positive things from other fellows bloggers and youtubers.
The box is just beautiful and the palette itself repeats the design on the packaging too. That butterfly with those little skulls on the edges of the wings… Yeah, you just can’t expect anything less from such an artist as Kat Von D is :)
The palette is made of cardboard. I know some of you like it, some of you not. I honestly don’t really care about that.
It retails for $46. And it is available exclusively at Sephora. I mean not just this particular palette, but Kat Von D makeup in general.
Let’s take a closer look now. Is it worth it or not?
As you can see it comes with a mirror. I don’t use it, but it may be useful for some of you, I guess.
You get a total of 12 eye shadows. I love those palettes that come with bigger pans of your basic colors. Because those would be the shades where I’d hit the pans first.
Most of the shades are cool toned. But nothing too dramatic, it kinda leans between cool toned and neutral, I don’t think those with warmer skin tones can’t use this palette.
This Chrysalis palette is “what you need and nothing else” for a perfect smokey eye makeup. It has a variety of textures and colors. From matte to satiny to metallic. It also has some very pretty deep shades.
All the eye shadows have amazing pigmentation. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
They transfer to the lid very well. They apply very even and blend with zero effort, even the darkest shades from this palette. I have to mention they are a little powdery so you may experience some fallout. Lasting power is great, 8+ hrs without fading on my lids with a primer of course. You are gonna need a primer anyways if you want them to stick even better and have less fallout.
I can say that the color selection was very well thought. There is not a color in this palette which I would like to add or change… Tons of color combinations for your everyday looks.
So, no matter how you want to combine these colors, your makeup is gonna look amazing. I don’t think I have seen such a palette before.
I took a lot of pictures of the palette as you can tell, I just love it a lot :)
I used it pretty much every day since I got it.
I am pretty sure by this time you’re all ready to jump onto the swatches:
These are not just beautiful and very pigmented basic colors, all 3 of them have different texture. The other thing is that it’s not just your regular highlighting eye shadows, you know one is a cream another one is a little bit darker or more yellow/pink toned, all of them are different colors too. These are all smooth and silky. Gorgeous.
You need to be careful with Hybrid Moments. It is a deep purple, very, very pigmented. It feels drier also. Just apply it little by little, it will blend beautifully this way, with no patches. The Transition e/s is so pretty, camera can’t tell you that. It’s a shimmery mauve dusty pink… Quite an unique shade.
Look at that taupe-silver color – Melancholia! I won’t lie, this is my favorite eye shadow in this palette. I am a sucker for such shades. These have all nice and smooth texture besides the Tornay, the matte dark navy eye shadow. It’s drier in texture, just like the deep purple Hybrid Moments. Same advice applies here too. Don’t apply too much at once. The pigmentation is great though.
Another favorite of mine would be that light grey – Black Milk. I would never think it is that hard to find a good, light grey eye shadow. And it is, believe me. This will compliment so many of my eye makeups… I am already super excited and even thrilled!
Here is an example of a makeup I’ve done with this palette:
I just love that blue… It’s the Entombed e/s by the way. By the way, these eye shadows look fabulous on the pictures, they photograph really well. This is gonna be your #1 palette for photo shoots, I am pretty sure.
More details on this look are coming up in my next post :)
Absolutely, I do recommend you checking out this palette. Thank you, Kat Von D for such an amazing job! And thank you my lil’ sister for this gift! I just know that she’s gonna read my post :)
