Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Powder is available in 8 shades. I have the lightest one which is #10 Porcelain. This was a “Youtube made me buy it” purchase. I am not a Maybelline fan, it just doesn’t work for me most of the time. But when in every other video I’ve seen the Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Powder mentioned or being used… I couldn’t help myself from not buying it.
Price: $8.05 – $10.99
NET WT: 0.32 oz / 9 g
Walmart offers the lowest price for it which is $8.05. Also, there is a coupon for the Better Skin products that saves you another $2, so you can get it for as cheap as $6.
Sturdy plastic packaging. It is sleek. At first I though I am not gonna like it, because I am so used to my regular round shaped compacts. But eventually I like it a lot. Doesn’t feel bulky when you hold it in your hand.
When you open it, you have a big mirror inside, the powder itself and a sponge. The sponge is a good one but I am not using sponges to apply my powder anyways.
Now, as I like it to do, let’s see what are Maybelline’s claims and what makes this powder so special:
Super Stay Better Skin® Powder glides on easily to deliver flawless makeup coverage that looks just-applied all throughout the day.
Maybelline’s oil-free, skin-transforming powder contains salicylic acid that helps to achieve better-looking skin in just three weeks. Eliminates shine and unevenness, while delivering a natural, matte finish. Dermatologist tested. Allergy tested. Non-comedogenic. Suitable for all skin types. Suitable for sensitive skin.
On the back of the Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Powder you have the ingredients list. And see how the sponge side has some holes? I guess it’s been made this way so the powder doesn’t get stuck in there. Maybe there is another reason to it, because I might be wrong!
I didn’t know this powder contains salicylic acid before I bought it. My skin reacts really good to it. Anything with salicylic acid works to heal or prevent my breakouts.
I didn’t see any miracles or notorious changes since I use this powder, but it’s good to know that it has salicylic acid. But if you are allergic to it, this is not the powder for you.
Now, my take on the Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Powder:
- Finely milled
- Feels silky to the touch
- Applies smoothly
- Medium coverage
- It performed well at oil control
- Natural matte finish
- Suitable for sensitive skin
- Good lasting power: 5-8 hrs shine free, depending on the weather condition and my activities
I apply it with a light hand and a fluffy brush, that’s when it looks the best on my skin. It smoothes my skin texture. And reduces the appearance of my pores.
If I would apply it with a sponge, as a result it definitely would look cakey and feel heavy. In fact, it would be too dark for me, if I would try and build it up. And this is Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Powder biggest con: if you are very pale, I am afraid it might be a tad dark for you. The lightest shade 10 Porcelain is not light enough for those with really fair skin.
When I apply more than a layer, I definitely see the pink hue peeking through. This doesn’t look cute at all on me. That’s why I prefer my MAC Studio Fix Perfecting Powder over this one. It doesn’t mean I don’t like this product though. I do. I just try to apply it with a light hand to avoid the consequences.
Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Powder 10 Porcelain in action:
Now to sum it up: It is a good oil controlling powder with a nice formula and finish. Am I gonna repurchase the Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Powder? I don’t know. It didn’t wow-ed me enough to become a staple in my makeup collection. What is your must have oil control powder?
