Guess what, guess what?! I finally got the new Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette.
I’ll tell you just a little bit about our “love story” ;-) … First of all I wasn’t planning to get this smoky palette, I wasn’t too excited. I already have a UD palette which I love using for my smoky eyes (Smoked palette), so I was quite sure I am gonna skip on this one.
But one day, I was just checking my Facebook page and accidentally pressed the play button on the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette teaser video:
I loved everything about this video, from the music to their models and the whole scene… I don’t know. Magic I guess.
That’s when I realized I need to get my hands on this palette. Even if I didn’t necessarily need another smoky palette, I had to have this one. End of story.
It released on July, 8th. And even if it’s been only a month since that day, the internet is booming with reviews on this palette. Yes, they did a phenomenal job this time on advertising it and teasing the potential customers for so long with this video and other ads :) I just have to admit that. My previous Naked palette, the 3rd one, I just got it at ULTA. I swatched it, liked it and bought it :) Easy.
Let’s begin with the packaging, shall we?
It is beautiful. Very well done. Sturdy. I love that smoky-ness all over the packaging. It has magnetic closure which feels really safe. This makes it travel friendly. Big plus for myself.
I also love that the back of the packaging is transparent and with the same smoky effect.
What we got inside?
Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette comes with a very informative booklet with step-by-step instructions on their four favorite smoky eyes looks. And Urban Decay’s booklets are my favorite, not like all the others I’ve seen and tried before. The instructions are so accurate, whenever I would try to do a makeup being guided by them, I’d get beautiful results. So, I’d suggest to keep them :)
Next, when you open the packaging you have 12 gorgeous, outstanding shades. Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette has golds and browns and deep purples and greys… If they’d have a deep green in there that would make it an irreplaceable palette for me.
It comes with a big mirror and a dual ended brush.
The brush is good. It is soft and gets the job done. I use it very often.
You also have a variety of textures. Four mattes, four satins and four glittery metallic shades.
The eyeshadows are soft, very silky and buttery. And despite a lot of other reviewers, I had a better experience with this palette than with my Naked 3.
- a lot less fall-out (the very minimum to none)
- the glittery shades are of better quality
- I think this palette got the best brush
- mixture of cool and warm shades
The pigmentation is excellent.
Have you already tried the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette? Let me know if you think that this one excels the other Naked palettes in case you own them too :)
When using the right shade as your transition color (in my case it’s the Combust e/s), you really get that smoky effect. The color is melting into your skin…
Of course I suggest using some sort of a base. To enhance the color and to make them adhere even better.
Once I apply them on my lids they stay in place until I take off my makeup. Haven’t had to deal with creasing or whatsoever.
And here are the beautiful swatches. I think that’s what you were looking for in the first place.
Combust e/s is my absolute favorite… out of all e/s I own at the moment. It is the most perfect and amazing transition color. It is a pink beige shade that melts into my skin when properly blended. On my swatches it looks more pink than it actually is, the color in the pan looks more accurate.
I like the Black Market e/s also. It is not the blackest black I’ve ever used, but this makes it easier to use. It is not chalky at all. And never applied patchy or gave me blending troubles.
You don’t have boring colors in the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette. They all have interesting undertones.
The only one color which is not as opaque as the orhers is Slanted. It’s a silver grey color with a lot of silver sparkles. I think I will use it as a transition color on my mobile lid, let’s say from a light silver to dark grey, we’ll see.
It retails for $54, as all the other Naked palettes.
Oh, before I am done with my post, these eyeshadows have a pleasant sweet scent. Smells like vanilla to me, it’s not strong or anything. But I definitely can smell it when I open the palette.
I will be back with some makeup looks using this palette of course. I am being obsessed with it lately ;)
